Poems as Wine Tasting

Today I decided to have another try at the triolet, a form that I find very appealing, yet terribly difficult to master. Like the haiku, it is one of those forms that look deceivingly simple, but are hell to get just right when you sit down to write. Without further ado, here’s my most recent attempt:

(DAY 8)

It Was a Feast

The sweet white wine was heavy on our lips;
It was a feast of undisguised obsession –
Swift veils were falling crisply off our hips,
The sweet white wine was heavy. On our lips
And in our mouths – a battleground of ships
Grazing on ripened tongues in quick succession…
The sweet white wine was heavy on our lips –
It was a feast of undisguised obsession…
