Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi

Finally, the skull! This grim little piece is dedicated to my friends who, I’m sure, will appreciate the joke. 🙂

As I am now, so shall you be

unblessed, my failures stuck between my teeth,
eyes wide and unfocused in numbness,
the fires of my determination burning elsewhere,
consuming me no longer, lighting my path no longer.
so for my hopes, and so for your dreams,
when your flattened fingers, crushed
under the millstone of “prove yourself”,
will fall, lifeless, before the eucharist of opportunity:
“my hands are mine no longer! my thoughts,
scattered everywhere, belong nowhere!”
I, from the seat of my old age,
and you, from the tomb of your youth,
level our expectations to ground zero.

    1. Thank you for your question. It was inspired by the constant struggle to prove oneself to others in order to achieve a goal one aspires to, and the frustration of almost always seeming to fall short of others’ expectations
