The Many Shades of Blue

Today’s prompt was to write a colour-tinged poem. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, I chose blue. Blue is my favourite colour, and also the colour which I find most expressive and most inspiring. So, without further ado, here is my poem for day seven of NaPoWriMo:

Blue

Where one world stops and another begins
The sky is tied in blue ribbons
And in-between them, long strands
Of mist, motionless and frothy.
There was a blue tinkle hanging at
The edge of your voice when we parted.
It was tottering playfully and I wondered
Whether blue might be something we
Take away with us when we die.
Frightfully blue, the drizzle on my
Aged roof, threatening with natural
Calamities the likes of which we’d
Never seen or heard of before.
The blue hem of your overcoat, clashing
Extravagantly with the scarcity of winter;
My hands had turned blue with indecision,
Yet you stayed cheerful and discreet
To the last. When I woke up, there were
Blue cupcakes waiting for me at the
Front door, and the signposts had all
Been painted blue in honour of
Freedom, patience and love. I drank
More sherry again that evening, turned
Blue and deceitful in the lamplight.
I wondered if blue was something
We dragged along with us from day to day.
